Synapse- Exploring the 'ever-changing' landscape of the brain.
Synapse is an exhibition of recent work, exploring neuroscience, creativity and the ‘ever-changing landscape’ of the brain. Kate explores the inter-relationship between art and science, creativity and the brain, including how the areas cross over and inform one another.
Kate’s fascination into neuroscience has stemmed from personal experience of a chronic pain condition, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. The condition developed after suffering a snowboard injury in 2008, whilst training on the GB Freestyle Snowboard team.
Since her injury, Kate’s art practice has been inspired by the neurological physiotherapy for her rehabilitation; in particular exercises to alter neural pathways. Further research into areas such as; cognitive sciences; physiology of the brain; neuroplasticity; and sensory perceptions, have also significantly informed her work.
